As has become the
"custom" around here, (much to the frustration of others who can't keep
up with the names!!) this little bitch's call name bears absolutely
no likeness to her registered name. But blame this one on the
soaps.........guess I've been watching GH for about 33 years too
long..........but I'm sure there are those of you out there who are
familiar with the Ice Princess!!!
"Gia-Pet" was the pick puppy
back from a Bear litter out of a L'Oreal-Sonic daughter, Sow's Ear
Maybelline. I had done the breeding to concentrate the old
Tag blood, and indeed, this little
bitch without a doubt has the greatest concentration of Tag blood
that exists anywhere. She has a total of 5 lines to old Tag, two of
them appearing in the third line of her pedigree. As I have
mentioned elsewhere on this webpage, I give so much credit for
consistency of type, temperament and working ability to that old
dog. He was, in my opinion, under-used and under-appreciated, being
the sire of not only the immortal Riverview Flare of Fox Run, but
also of
Witchy,
Chigger
and
Revlon, who at almost 10 years of
age, is still making history in this breed, and whose
accomplishments will never be equaled.
Every breeder at one point
or another makes the mistake of "letting a really good one get
away", and I'm no exception. But, at least I only let half
of this good one get away. Gia is co-owned with and lives with Jan
Rodgers of
Southland Jack Russells
in
Alexandria, Louisiana, and is without a doubt the light of her
life. I placed Gia with Jan as a "broodbitch only", mostly because
of the amount of coat she had; I'm just not "into" grooming the
rough coats these days. Needless to say, little Gia came out of
the "uglies" with flying colors, and this little bitch is now
regularly either winning or pinning quite well in the under
rough-broken bitch class, which we all know is the toughest one out
there! Jan likes to rub it in every time Gia pins either first or
second in her class by reminding me about how thrilled she is with
her "non-conformation bitch". And, after winning the Americal Bred
Bitch class at the 2003 U. S. Nationals, Jan really got to
gloat!!! So.........while we all screw up at one time or another,
I just didn't screw up completely on this little girl!!!
Jan also owns
The Hollow AfterMax,
who is one of the nicest Max sons ever produced, and out of a tiny
little 12" York daughter, The Hollow Marcelina. While Max and Gia
both have quite a bit of coat, they are both such lovely terriers
that it's too hard to resist not pairing them up at some point,
regardless of what the chances of getting a lot of coat might be.
With these two terriers as part of her foundation stock, Jan should
be well on her way to producing some lovely terriers in short
order. Max's first puppies are on the ground now, and look to be
very promising indeed.
Gia has really matured into
a lovely little bitch..........and I do mean little. She's just 12
inches, and as with most Bear babies, has NO chest (or in other
words, Witchy's chest........) She's dead narrow, has great bone
and a gorgeous strong head, dead level topline, and covers ground
like there's no tomorrow. Structurally, she reminds me so much of
Mona, who is Bear's littermate. These strong, cobby little
bitches are worth their weight in gold as producers. And like
Mona, Gia is an incredible athlete and possesses an amazing amount
of speed.......Jan is just now trying to get her started in a career
on the race track as well.
