"Good things come in small packages", as the saying goes. And they don't get much smaller than Mascara, or "Scary", as she's affectionately been nicknamed. She just barely makes 11 inches, yet is put together just beautifully. She has no chest, and is as narrow as they come. She has Revlon's long elegant neck and a topline to die for. And a wonderful harsh, broken coat that is a joy to groom.....mostly because there is so little grooming!!!!

So far, her diminutive size hasn't seemed to hinder her at all; she's done extremely well in the conformation ring from the get-go, with Reserve wins in both the 4-6 Month and Regular puppy classes. At 2001 U.S. Nationals she placed 2nd in a really tough class of 32 entries--the biggest puppy class of the day. Scary is always right there in the Under Working Bitch class, and was Reserve Working Terrier Champion at Hi-Bid. And at the 2002 U.S. Nationals, she was 3rd in a class of 21, the largest working class of the day.  As is the way with this bitch line, she just gets better with age.........2003 was an even better year in the ring, with multiple Working Terrier Championships and Reserves to her credit.   And once again at U.S. Nationals, she was right at the top end of the lineup in the Working Bitch class, placing second amidst extremely tough competition.   She had every bit as much success in 2004, and has started 2005 off on the right foot with back to back Reserve Working Terrier Bitch wins.

She has also been right there on the racetrack too, and has managed to earn a Reserve Puppy Racing Championship while up against some pretty stiff competition--naturally much taller than herself!! But, as an adult, 11 inches just doesn't get you anywhere in the under class......especially when you're racing against the likes of Riot!!! So why bother???? (Harry's sentiments too, I would guess.......)

But, it's in the field where her size--or rather, lack of it--is best appreciated. Scary turned on extremely early, and what she lacks in size she sure makes up for in attitude! Getting up to the quarry just isn't a problem for her, and she earned her NHC to groundhog at 7 months! She's an extremely good worker, very clever, with enough grit to actually try and draw the quarry if she can. She sticks with whatever it is she's working, and amazingly, can be a bit hard for such a tiny bitch....but the up side is that she's smart about it at the same time, so never ends up getting trashed. An incredible little working bitch that I am extremely proud to have bred.

Scary whelped her first litter by Bear in early April of 2003, I was very pleased with the outcome.   Sow's Ear Séance, who is a dead ringer for her mother, has all of Scary's attributes, and Sow's Ear Clone has been stealing everyone's hearts since he first strutted into the show ring as part of Bear's Stud Dog Class at Cumberland in 2003, and I'm quite sure was a contributing factor to the Best Family win!   Sow's Ear Riley is a beautiful bitch that I foolishly sold instead of keeping!   But, the plan is to repeat the Bear litter with the hopes of producing more like these guys!

Scary is co-owned and lives with Twila Decker of Edgewater Jack Russells in Matamoras, Pa
