Mona has the distinction of being the only terrier at Sows Ear to have pulled of the "Hat Trick" twice; going Puppy Conformation, Racing and Go-to-Ground Champion at the same trial!  She was also '97 U.S. National Puppy Racing Champion. And dispelling the myth that "racing" dogs need big chests to win, she always did well in the conformation ring, whether Open or in the tough Under Working Bitch classes, and has earned Working Terrier Championships.

Mona has followed in her mother's footsteps as a brood bitch as well; her litter by Windermere Absolut was fantastic, producing Sow's Ear Taltos"Harry" & Sow's Ear Ace.    Harry has gone on to be not only an outstanding producer in his own right, but a consistent winner in the conformation ring.  And of course Harry is always right there in the runoffs in the under dog racing classes!!  As is the way with this bitch line, they are are outstanding performance terriers.  Sow's Ear Gunner, from her first litter, is not only a force to be reckoned with on the racetrack, but in the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge as well, where he's won the Central Division and finished second nationwide!!  Gunner also competes successfully in agility, proving yet again the incredible versatility of this line.  He's owned by Chris Hayden of Foxglade Terriers.

Mona's litter by Max was by far her best......unfortunately, they were all boys!!  But, they're doing extremely well in both the conformation ring and on the racetrack.  Sow's Ear Titanium has multiple 4-6 Month and Regular Puppy Championships to his credit, along with a Reserve Racing win.......Sow's Ear Just Oz managed to pin 5th in that huge 4-6 Month Rough Dog pup class at 2002 Nationals and Sow's Ear Mr. Mona and Sow's Ear Maxie are out in California winning in both Conformation and Racing!!  Not too shabby an accounting for one litter.

Mona has held together beautifully, and even at almost 8 years of age, has that same cat-like chest she did as a puppy; her front, rear and movement still remain the same.  Another one of those terriers that will literally hold together forever.

Sadly, Mona had to be retired in the spring of 2004.   She was bred to AfterMax in January, but never really stopped bleeding after the heat, and about 2/3 of the way through the pregnancy, she became so anemic from loss of blood (the source of the bleeding obviously coming from her uterus) that it became necessary to spay her to save her life.   I cannot begin to describe the feelings that rushed through my body when we pulled her uterus out with 5 puppies inside......it just about killed me.   And the next several days after the surgery were touch and go......that included a last ditch attempt to save Mona with a blood transfusion.   But, our efforts paid off and she pulled through.   So she now lives the good life with a close friend who has several of my other retirees.   No more babies for Moey, but somehow, I don't think she really cares!
